crankshaft seal help.

OK I had a very bad leak and I replaced the opt spark seal and the water pump seal on the timing cover and that seamed to be the end of it.
But now I have a very small leak from the front I'm going to guess it's from the crankshaft seal on the timing cover.
Now I have to take the harmonic balancer off no big deal take the three bolts off and it comes off easy.
Now I have a harmonic balancer to pull off the hub so if I pull the hub off it has to go on in the same place it came off right it has a key?
I hope to just take off the fans to get enough room to get the puller on and get it off?
I did a search but I'm just a little up seat right now because I thought I fixed the leak so if you could give me a little help I would appreciate it.
Thanks,

The hub is not keyed.

Your balancer may have weights in it. If it does, it needs to go back on in the same way it came off(index the balancer and hub to the crankshaft). Mine have weights in it.

Just check to be sure.

I'm having a brain fart how do you take off the hub?
I was just looking at my old LT1 and I see you can't use a harmonic balancer puller to take the hub off because the center bolt will be pressing on the hub.
thanks,

thanks,
Loosen the crank bolt but don"t remove it. Attach the puller and press against the center bolt. Once the hub moves a little it'll come the rest of the way fairly easily. Remove the bolt, yank off the hub, fix seal, replace hub, and REPLACE THE CRANK HUB BOLT...you'll be glad you did.

OK I can see how that would work but I think it's kinda scary because you are putting a lot of pressure on the threads to a bolt that is not bottomed out.
I guess I can get a grade 8 bolt thats a little longer and put it in that way it will be bottomed out in the crank.
Now as far as installing the hub I have a snap on blue point harmonic balancer installer tool.
That will work to put the hub back on right?
And can somebody explain why it is so important to put the hub back on in the same position as it came off?
I'm just not understanding why that would make a difference there is no key.

look at it closely it is not concentric, the lt1 engine is not internally balanced like the sbc, it has an extra amount of weight on the hub and the flex plate

so put it back where you got it
