crankshaft position sensor

crankshaft position sensor

does anyone know where it is located? i got a code so i bought a new one, what is weird is the car runs fine and starts fine, and i have delt with cars that have bad crankshaft position sensors.

It connects into the bottom of the timing cover.

It's just visible in the lower left corner of this pic - http://www.go-fast.org/z28/MyParts/crankseal1.jpg

White connector with wires going in to it. The hub is off the crank in that pic, but you don't need to remove the hub to change the sensor.

Another visual. Most other cars will not run with a bad crank sensor. The LT1 is different, in that it gets position info from the optispark for ignition purposes. The crank sensor is only used for detecting misfires.

so it looks like it is not a difficult install, what is weird is theat the car juns just fine.
