Question Re: Crank Sprocket

What type of puller are you using?

You do know it's pressed on ...... right?

Regarding the "since when" question ......... for small block Chevys ..... I'm pretty sure ...... since 1955.

And finally, nope, the crank sprocket will NOT just slide off after the cam sprocket and timing chain have been removed. Again ...... you need a puller to remove the crank sprocket.

Re: crank sprocket

To add to this, you also need a way to press the new one on. What works well is a short 3 or 4" long piece of pipe and a crank hub installer set.

Re: crank sprocket

I always used a hub install tool (all thread) with a piece of pipe and some washers to press my sprocket into place.

Re: crank sprocket

It generally take little effort to put a crank gear on.

Re: crank sprocket

Like the others said, use a puller and maybe apply a little heat to it if it's giving you a lot of trouble. Installing was easy, I didn't want to bang on it with a hammer so I put the gear into the toaster oven for 15 minutes on high and it went on really easy with minor tapping.
