Angry Crank Snout Removal!!!

ok im tryin to do my camshaft install. ive got the balancer off, the opti out, all that good stuff. now i just need to remove the crank snout so i can remove the timing cover and get to work. i can NOT get this thing off to save my life. i used a 3 jaw puller and stuck a 1/4" drive socket up in there so it could push off that and no go. the socket might not have been long enough, but i am at a loss for words here. i hit it with the impact and it wasnt budging. can someone give me some tips here? maybe some way to lube it to help it slide off or something? im really tryin to get my car done asap and this is the only real thing holdin me up!

u got the balancer hub off right?

Oh wait, you mean the hub? ? cuz u want to take off the timing cover :P

the puller is the only way you can take that off... again some people thread the crank bolt in there a few threads in and use that to push against, it worked great for me,but sometimes it doesn't for others, possibility of ruining the threads /bolt...

If your using a regular 1/4" extension, the little one, then you made the same mistake i made. I got to a point where putting all my weight down wouldn't turn the bolt for the puller. What happened was that the 1/4" extension was embossed into the crank hub because it lost its seat at the back of the hole where it was in. For me it got stuck, and i had trouble getting it out until I used a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter and another extension with the ratchet to turn the 1/4" extension that got embossed. It came right out. Then i used one of the bolts that i bought to pull the cam out as the bolt to push against.

You need a harmonic balancer puller. The one with the paw looking thing and the long pointed shaft. You will need a 3/8 allen head bolt either 3 or 4 inches long. Put the allen head bolt into the crank snout, it should just slide in there because the bolt is too small to catch the threads. The point on the harmonic balancer shaft will seat int he head of the bolt. Then thread three bolts through the paw looking part of the puller and the ears of the hub, simply tighten and it should pull right off. Hope you can understand that.
