crank pulley

crank pulley

my mechanic told me that my crank pulley moves up about an inch when i drop the clutch or accelerate fast should i be worried about this?

I would be worried, in my opinion anything thats bolted down shouldnt move i would get that looked at

I dont understand how it can "move up". If the pulley is shifting, the crank would be too, and you would notice that for sure. The pulley is bolted to a hub with three bolts and then the hub is bolted to the crank with a single bolt.

yea thats what i thought someone told me since its a manual it does move, but what should i do?

The only way it could come close to moving that mush would be if the mounts are totally destroyed and the whole engine is moving that much.

Just because someone is a mechanic does NOT mean they know anything about cars, just means they get paid to change parts, only a tiny fraction of them are capable of any diagnosis these days.

thats what i told my mom and thats why im askin about it on here cuz yall have way more experience with these type cars, and its just the crank pulley that moves nothing else.

you sure he isnt looking at the tensioner pulley? thats the only pulley that could move up and down a inch

yea its the crank pulley, i want to buy a new motor anyway but i dont have the money right now, what could cause this to happen?

I cant imagine the crank pulley moving that much. Check the center bolt that holds the crank hub in place. If your mechanic is confusing a crank pulley and a belt tensioner. It might be time to change shops.

he didnt mistake it for the tensioner pulley cuz i was there when he showed me but im thinking about taking it to this other shop that specializes in corvettes and camaros and see what they say
