cracked block
Has anyone had their block crack in the same place? Got any ideas on what could cause this?
It was a 383 with eagle crank, stock rods, and speed pro pistons. I bought it that way and it only lasted about 6 months before it started knocking. I finally got around to taking a look and i found this (among other things), which I think was the source of the knock.

Re: cracked block
here is the thread i made years ago when I first heard the sound. I lost interest for a while but found the motivation again and plan to get the car up and running for next summer.

Re: cracked block
could have been several reasons the block cracked there in the rear
bad line bore for crank
running external balanced FW/Flexplate when engine was "internal" balanced (if it was)
eagle cast crank
that block is scrap, start over with better "forged" parts...and build

Re: cracked block
i already got another block. the crank was not damaged at all, all journals mic like new. i wish i knew what the previous owner did as far as balancing goes. i dont think forged is necessary for my purposes though.

Re: cracked block
if your Eagle crank is forged, it is "OK". Their cast stuff, no.
have a qualified shop prep the new block and balance rotating assembly "internal" balance aka neutral. You will need to run a neutral balance FW/Flexplate.
who knows wtf PO builder did but something FUp'ed
