Couple minor issues after rebuild

I just took it for the first drive since the rebuild. It is a 350 LT-1 crank turned 10 under, re used stock rods/pistons, new bearings. I put in a new 224 236 .536/.555 Comp Cam. My speedometer sensor on the tranny got disconnected and the speedo didsn't work, but I drove it and after I got to operating temperature, the car would stall and die after highway driving coming to a stop. I hooked the speedo back and hadn't had a problem since.

The temperature runs no higher then the middle mark (about 210). I have a new 160 thermostat. It's not loosing coolant, and I am certain it is bleed good. I bled it numerous times. Before the rebuild it might barely get above the first tick.

My oil pressure is within tolerance it idles warm at 20. While driving I'd say it stays around 30, maybee up to 35. Before the rebuild, it would rarely hit 20, and average 40.

Do the oil pressure and water temp seem normal. Will/should they get better after the motor gets broken in.

Re: Couple minor issues after rebuild

What weight oil are you running. The low oil pressure could be due to a difference in clearances between motors. Try something like Mobil 0-40, I have had good luck with that.

If the car is on a stock tune, then 210 is fine since the fans wont kick on until then no matter what the thermostat is. If it is tuned to run with a low temp thermo, then you might check and make sure the fans are coming on.

Mad Z28 tuned the computer. I know for a fact the fans are turning on.

Thanks:

Well, I am running a 180 thermo with a PCMforless tune, and I have never seen it go over 180 in 100+ degree humid Texas heat for 3 hours in traffic. So I'd say that you need to look into that one.

Re: Couple minor issues after rebuild

I just took my 160 Hypertech thermostat out and put it in water on the stove. I put a temperature gauge in with it. It started to open at 174 and was fully open around 190.

I had an old thermostat laying around and it would start to open at 180 and would not open except for a very small crack even at about 210. So that one went in the garbage.

I put the hyper back in and bled it for atleast 45 minutes using the elec water pump. I let it idle and also ran the heater it never got above 185. After it cooled back down the fans even kicked back off and then back on again as the temp once again stabalised at around 185 again. So on monday I am going to call Thunder and ask them what to do, as this thermostat only has 30 miles on it. Worst case I'll have to deal with hypertech. But I haven't ever had any negative experiences with Thunderracing. So I am optomistic they will send me a new one.

Thanks:
