couple 1.6 rocker questions......

are the crane gold race 1.6 rr's the same as the gm 1.6 rr's??
are the gm 1.6's sa or nsa?
also i heard you can't use the gm 1.6 rr's when going to a cam like cc306, is there any truth to this?

Not an answer to the question but also, is there any valve cover issues with larger 1.6 rockers or is that only with 1.7s?

No clearance issues. I used CC1.6's with my CC306.

Re: couple 1.6 rocker questions......

Its BS that u cant use them with the cc306, u can use any 1.6 rocker arm out there as long as its made for the lt1. The GM Bowtie rockers that come with the hotcam kits are SA. Whether or not u can get them NSA I dont know. U may have a few valve cover clearance issues but it can be takin care of easily by trimming or flattining the braces on the inside of the valve cover.

Crane gold race 1.6 rr's are supoosed to be the same as the GM 1.6 rr's.
I have the GM's under the stock covers with no clearence issues. Why can't they be used with the 306?

I saw a comparison test in a magazine a couple of years back about rr's. I can't remember all the ones tested but the crane gold's are the only ones that actually reached their advertised lift ratio. Most were under what was advertised

The instructions that came with my GM 1.6 rockers, says if used with valve lift that exceeds 0.575 lift, severe damage will occur. Or if valve spring dia. exceeds 1.450.

Re: couple 1.6 rocker questions......

non self aligning have to be used with guideplates and hardened pushrods, the self aligning can be used with all pushrods and have free-floating washers built into the tip of the rocker arm that holds the pushrod stud in place. i have the gm ra's, they are an exact replica of a crane gold rocker. i have the whole hotcam setup, no clearance issues with stock valvecovers, but i switched to flamed aftermarket alumanum valve covers i got from a place in tennessee.

I would think that Crane makes the rockers for GM, so I would say yes.

If for some reason there are clearance issues (maybe if someone were to go 1.7) what valve covers would you have to get? I have looked a little on here, tech and google but didn't find much and stopped shortly after.

I would call Crane's tech line and ask them.
