Could two huge vaccume leaks cause this weird problem?
Before I put the car away for winter I was having problems with an upper RPM miss that was predictable at 5500 RPMs or so and only happened under full throttle. In the fall I replaced the plugs, fuel filter, coil, and wires. The opti was ok and only had 2,000 miles on it. I readjusted the rocker arms several times etc, still all this to no avail.
Now a week ago I was messing around with the car and when I took the elbow off there was a huge gap where I used a pert plus bottle top to seal off the inside of the old air silencer. Also upon taking off the TB gasket I noticed the gasket was torn and there was a sooty sludge built up all along the bottom of the TB and intake.
Could these two leaks be the cause of that miss?

This leak would have the potential to cause a decent powerloss also correct?

The sludge happens. It's backwash from your PCV system. IE: oil that gets past the baffles. It happens in every make/model of car. Just builds up over time, can be cleaned out relatively easily.
