could this be a problem with coil?

well, i'll try to explain this best i can...picked up my car saturday after getting the long tubes installed..finally a nice day, yesterday i take it out mess around a bit,i get home pull into the drive way it turns off...try starting it, it wont start...i figure battary, jump start it..turned on but shut down after a minute or so, so take the alternator out get it tested, thats bad..today get a new alternator charge the battary..take it out for a drive today, it turned on fine idol everything was good...so i take it out, going down the freeway stomping on it, feeling the difference of the new headers, get off the freeway when im coming up to a late it starts droaning puttering it dies...what i did notice is, when it started dieing even when the engine died, the RPM are shooting up...up and down the needle is going...turn the ignition all off, check for loose cables everything looks good..try to start it, it turns on...wtf, ok.. i back up, i go down about a block, turns off again...not just like die completely, it revs up and down then dies...luckily i had speed to turn into a drive way...pop the hood, my friend starts looking at the coil,we move that around,it seems loose, the car starts, then died..we didnt bother moving it, i tried again car wouldent start, moved the coil again it started...im asking this cause i want to know what else to look for, could this be more then just a coil? thanks for any help, sorry for the novel haha...

Sounds like a bad connection. Check all the connectors that go to the coil and ICM including the coil wire that goes to the opti. The coil is riveted to the heat sink that the ICM is screwed to and the heatsink in turn is bolted to the head. Nothing should move around. Matter fact, now that I think about it, make sure that the grounds that are connected to one of the bolts that holds the heatsink to the head are nice and tight. These grounds will cut your car off if they lose connection (one allows the ICM/coil to see ground). Here's a pic with those grounds connected to the bolt on the right http://shbox.com/1/coil_loc.jpg.

As stated above, tighten everything up...coil and icm to the heat sink, heat sink to the block, and the grounds to the coil. If it continues to die, I would have the coil and the icm tested. Good luck.

Suggestion: Add a "signature" with basic info about your car, including YEAR, model, engine, trans and any major mods. That will help people help you with accurate info.

Right after my header install i had issues and the car ran like crap and would not run. It turned out to be a burnt plug wire. You should check all the connections that might have been removed to do the install. Maybe they missed hooking something up or it came loose from not being tight enough.
