Well, we were degreeing in the new cam for the motor, and found a rather interesting thing.

Degreeing the cam using the intake centerline method, it was determined that the ICL is 101. This was double checked, and checked again, all the same results. My builder is precise about this stuff, he wont even let me touch the motor during this since he wants it correct.

The cam is a 230/236/112 which is supposed to have an ICL of 108.

Builder called comp today and they told him that they have been having problems with the LT1 grinds, and they wanted my cam bad to check. And they offered to replace it with a new one. so i need to call them tomorrow to work out details.

Yes, i realize i cannot use offset keyways or bushings cause the opti needs a straight up setup to be in sequence with the crank.


The question is, could this "minor" problem be the cause of my past problems. Before the motor was taken out, the car never wanted to really run. Anytime the clutch would be pushed in, the revs would drop FAST, and the motor would stall if you did not give it gas. It was simply undrivable. Stranded my *** on the highway one time and had to have it towed home.

Also it had been a bitch to start it even with the LT4 starter, it would need to crank for at least 7 seconds and be given gas to start, compression ratio was like 10.7 or so.

Anyone think that this ICL ****up could have been the cause of these problems? Please explain it if you can!

Well,

When the cam gets advanced that much, and you knock the ICL down from 108 to 101 you will increase the Dynamic Compression Ratio a ton, that will make it hard to turn over and start.

On the dying part....... not sure, if the LSA is off too then it will die like that. Alot of circle track motors with 99-103 ICL's don't like to idle either.

It could be a tuing problem too, but I would get the cam fixed first.
