Cost & difficulty of A4 to M6 conversion?
Cost & difficulty of A4 to M6 conversion?
Hey guys,
I have a 1997 Camaro Z28 supercharged LT1. I am getting sick and tired of this slipping 4L60E, and am thinking of doing the M6 conversion. I really don't want to go 3-speed, and I think that an M6 would really wake the car up and make it fun. I was just wondering how costly and labor intensive the switch from an A4 to M6 is? Has anyone on here done this? Any info. is greatly appreciated - including things such as where I can buy the M6, new or used, installation tips, pricing etc... I know the t-56's can hold tons of power as long as they have a good clutch, I am running around 500 RWHP. I am not a official mechanic, but I built my current shortblock myself, and am confident that I could handle doing the labor on this as long as it is not anything super crazy. Any info, suggestions, etc. are greatly appreciated, thanx in advance!

you will have to cut a splice in the new sensors in your existing wiring harness for the M6 because naturally the M6 and A4 wiring harnesses are different
you will need to have your computer retuned for it.
you need all the basics........pedals, center console, i cant remember if the driveshafts are the same length........
you should find one of the how-tos on doing it somewhere on this site.
Gl if you decide too....................
Re: Cost & difficulty of A4 to M6 conversion?
I'm in the process of doing this myself on my 96' I just bought a high mileage 95' Formula with a thrown rod very very cheap since it happened to have a T56 that was rebuilt like 10k miles ago, which I'll probably end up swaping my auto in, fixing it and selling for a hefty profit LOL. But there are many sources, you could even buy the tranny new(minus the bellhousing and all tha accessories to save $) if you so desire - but a few salavage companies are selling kits which include everything you'll need for $1800-2200, which includes ALOT of parts, everything except a new clutch and console shift plate, just do a search for it here 'T56 conversion' you'll find buttloads of info. Also you need to get whatever flywheel you use balanced to match your current flexplate, but thats pretty cheap deal, at any machine shop, $50-75.
