I have a 96 ss when car is started cold all ok then slowly temp starts to rise then low coolant light comes on car get close to top of temp guage. Noticed fans not coming on , does coolant light and fans work together? I installed new 160 thermostat thaought poss was problem but still presists. Car sits alot does not really get driven. Other day i did notice fan spun very slow once. Any help would be great! poss sensor in water pump or in cylinder head?????

 

Sensor is in water pump, pull it and the fans should come on. Otherwise turn on your A/C and it should come on. Maybe you have air in your system? Good luck.
