Cooling question injuneer, shbox if possible
Cooling question injuneer, shbox if possible
Well Im fineshing up a 1996 (transam) lt1/4l60e swap. The drivetrain got inplanted into a 82 two door caprice.
I tired using the trick from shboxes's site about bridging the numbers 5 and 6 pin on the aldl (i did this with the engine cold). The fans did not turn on.
A friend of mine with a 96 camaro had told me to pull the temp sensor connecter off the water pump while the engine is running. He said that this would cause the fans to come on low and then high speed. And the fans come on just as they should
Is there any other ways that i could test the fan operation? i let the car sit and idle and the fans have yet to come on. If you sqeeze the rad hoses they are hot to the touch but no fans.
btw i have no quages to see what temp the car is at since i just got done with the swap.

Stock programming doesn't turn a fan on until the coolant temp reaches 226degF. Pull the coolant temp sensor harness connector off the sensor, and stick a 100 ohm resistor across the pins on the harness connector. Since that resistance it equivalent to a 248degF coolant temp, both fans shuold come on.

Awsome thank you very much. If the fans turn on when the resister is placed in the connecter either one of two things is happeneing then right?
1) my temp sensor is bad
or
2) im just a big chicken **** and wont let the car get hot enough.

You can check the temperature sensor with an ohm meter. The approximate resistance values vs. temperature is in a table in my scanner writeup.
