Cooling fan temp

i am having a strange problem with my car. For some reason my radiator fan does not turn on till 240 degrees! i have a 180 deg thermostat so as long as im moving the temp is fine, but if i idle...it will keep getting hotter and hotter and no fan till like 240. i replaced the coolent temp sencer with no luck. is my computer set to turn them on to high or is there something else? i need to fix this before summer!

Yeah that's normal. I freeked out too when I first noticed that. The only way to change it is to get a tune and they can change that. Or you could do a fan switch.

The only way to really know what the PCM is seeing as the temp is with a scan tool. It is also possible that your temp gauge is the one that is reading higher than it actually is.

The pcm will command low speed fans "ON" at 226º and "OFF" at 221º and high speed fans "ON" at 235º and "OFF" at 230º.

It's likely that you have air in your cooling system. The presence of air will cause your themostat to open late or not at all, thereby causing your engine to overheat.

When you car is moving you're forcing the coolant through the system since the water pump is working harder, but at idle the coolant recirculates at a slower rate thus overheating.

I'd try bleeding the air, this is the cheapest solution (free) and most likely problem.

Yea, i bleaded the system of air already. the problem isn't there...the problem is the radiator fan not turning on when the engine reaches a certain temp. i have no idea what could cause this. by the way, turning on the A/C does turn on the fan like its suppost to
