Coolant from throttle body?
Coolant from throttle body?
Hey guys, got everything hooked up, running good, then saw a solid stream of coolant from which looked like behind the TB? I took it all apart again, was thinking maybe the gasket under the throttle body there. It's a aftermarket one TB, not to sure exact brand but would that gasket be the same as stock?? Anyone else had this issue? Thanks!
Re: Coolant from throttle body?
Coolant does run through the throttle body. Some people do a throttle body coolant bypass is you search it there are a ton of write ups and then your throttle body coolant issue will be fixed.
Re: Coolant from throttle body?
The coolant flows through passages in the plate that holds the IAC motor on the bottom of the throttle body. That plate has a gasket and multiple screws to attach it to the throttle body. If the screws are loose, it will leak coolant. I've seen people get the different length screws mixed up, and if you put a long screw in a short hole you can't tighten it.
Re: Coolant from throttle body?
Ok seems pretty simple. Just removing both hoses from the tB and connectin them together? Simple. Now livin in Canada, as I do, but I do not drive the car in the winter, is this still ok to do? Fred, I did take it apart and noticed only two torx screws under the TB, but what seemed like alot more holes to put screws into? Maybe that is the issues, and a bypass is needed.
Re: Coolant from throttle body?
No one has ever reported an issue with the TB bypass that I know of. That includes people in Canada. Its purpose is to keep the throttle blades from icing during extended driving in extreme cold. Just a base GM had to cover when marketing to the masses.
