coolant question

Well, my car's been sitting for about 4 months, as I've been waiting for some money to get er fixed. Here's what I'm going to replace (cause they're all bad/blown): radiator/cap, WP, all hoses and possibly the opti.

Question: I've been running Dexcool "orange stuff" since I bought the car (switched it from the green stuff as it needed a radiator when I got it), but recently I've had many cooling issues and am tired of dishing out the big bucks for Dexcool, would it be OK to switch back to the green stuff?

I thought dexcool was bad for our cars? I always use the green stuff. The orange stuff I belive is what can clump up and cause clogs.

Dexcool is what is called for---should be fine if you don't expose to air or mix with other coolant. If you are going to go green, go all the way. Don't mix them. JMHO

Depends upon the year - I believe in 96, the switch was made. However,
I run Dexcool in my car with no issues.

The problem comes in if you mix the green with the gold - the whole
cooling system has to be completely flushed before switching to Dex.

Sidenote: The green and gold coolants are the same price at my local
auto parts store.
