coolant problem

alright ive searched as much as i can right now but i have to get back to work, yesterday my 96 z28 leaked coolant and was low on coolant so i topped it off. It was to late or dark for me to get uder and see where it was leaking from, also it drove perfectley fine yesterday.

Today though whenever i start the vehicle the temp spikes up to about 260 and my check gauge light comes one. After i start moving it rapidly drops back down to operating temp and then at idle goes up to the normal like 220ish range in warm weather, after work im going to check the weap hole on my water pump and try and figure out where the leak is coming from if its not there, anyone have any other suggestions where to check or have come across a similiar problem?

i also haven't done any work on the coolant system latley so theyre should be any air in the system unless do to a cracked head or bad head gasket.. but the oil also is milky...

Re: coolant problem

If your radiator wasn't full, and you "topped it off", you probably have air in the system. That is the nature of the LT1's "reverse flow" cooling system. You need to bleed the system again.

Re: coolant problem

Air in the system will cause those spikes in temperature.

Re: coolant problem

It was spiking earlier and I still need to find why I was leaking fluid, but I will bleed the system I mean its when the car starts it spikes then drops to normal op when I start moving and doesn't go back up passed the normal idle temp until I turn car off and on again, but ill bleed the system and check it again after I get dismissed from work
