Coolant Overflow Reservior

Is the coolant overflow reservoir the same size and shape in a V6 '96 or '97 Camaro as the one in my '95 Z28? I have a friend who wrecked her V6 Camaro, and I might want to buy that part from her if it'll be a direct replacement.

I have ZERO knowledge of the V6 Camaros, so I'm not sure.

I have replaced the coolant expansion tank on all three of my z28s - 95 and 01. They are all the same and I expect them to be the same regardless of motor. You can be certain by going to shbox.com. Rob not only has many part #s listed, he also has contact information for people who can tell you for sure and get them to you at a discount.

Yes, it's listed in his parts page: http://shbox.com/1/Parts.htm

That's surprisingly insanely cheap from Gmpartsdirect.

1993-2002 battery tray/coolant reservoir 10402687 $18.81

Good to know the V6 one fits. Mine on the Z28 is messed up. The lip that prevents the battery from moving is completely sheared off and I remember a really huge bolt down there that was doing absolutely nothing but rattling around. Do you remember what the bolt connects to or if it is supposed to have a nut on the other side...? It's been 10 months since I've looked at it.

BTW, why did you have to replace the tank on all of your cars?

The price for me has ranged from about $35 to almost $46. I bought the latter from a dealership and the other two through Dal Slabaugh. I did not get it at the price listed on shbox.com but they are still remarkably inexpensive. My guess for the low price is that it should have been a factory recall issue. I have never examined a camaro that didn't have the retention lip broken or breaking. They are simply a faulty component that allows a battery to move around. That in itself is a little dangerous IMHO.

I think the bolt you mention goes through the tray and threads into a bracket that is part of the bodywork and bracing of the car. The tray itself is offset from the tank and filler neck. I do not remember but I believe the attachment nut is part of the bracket. I can't imagine that fastened nut or threaded portion breaking free unless the car were in an accident or badly rusted. The bolt is not huge by my estimation. I think it has a 14mm head and about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. I hope this is helpful.

Many of the prices shown on Shoebox's parts list are out of date. They are just intended as guidelines, but there have been some significant increases over the past year or so. I don't think he has the resources to check the prices on all those items and revise them frequently.

Thanks for the responses guys.

About the bolt: You may be right, but I seem to remember mine being about 6 inches long and fairly skinny . Perhaps some dealership work gone bad....
