Coolant leaking out of Reservoir...overheating...need help
Coolant leaking out of Reservoir...overheating...need help
My situation is that i've had my low coolant light coming on every now and then and the coolant level being fine sometimes and other times it being low.
Everything was running fine with my car except for that light up until yesterday when, after a good amount of driving my car was barely able to keep idle, it was holding at like 200-600 rpms...I had to give it gas and then it was still able to run as if it were alright. There wasn't any smoke coming from my exhaust or anything.
So I noticed my temp starting to rise, even with the fans left in the on position the temp was still rising. When I pulled it over in a gas station I noticed coolant coming from under the front (pass) fender in front of the wheel, I wasn't sure what was leaking, I thought it might be my radiator, so I added some water to the reservoir and it filled up immediately and overflowed a little, then I saw the clear water come from the same spot that was leaking before.
My theory was that it might be the t-stat(it's at least 3 years old and about 80,000 miles used)...or at least i'm hoping it is...since there is no smoke i'm hoping that could rule out a head gasket or something...
Any input is helpful. Thanks.

Re: Coolant leaking out of Reservoir...overheating...need help
replace the radiator cap.
the lt1 needs 18lbs of pressure in the coolant system. if the cap isn't holding that, it allows hot coolant into the resevoir...and overflows it.
had it happen to mine, swapped a $5 cap on there (make sure its for the LT1) and it was fine.

I took it to my local shop that i go to and the guy showed me the weep hole was leaking in the WP...I think it also is the radiator cap just because of where I saw the coolant coming from first, thanks for that.
Also found out a motor mount and tranny mount are cracked, along with my belt and tensioner both were on their way out (guy did show me all of this)...fun stuff.
I'll keep posted until everything with the coolant is fixed.
