coolant leaked out of overflow tube...

Today I got on my car pretty hard, and about 2 minutes later I pulled into my driveway and the coolant boiled over and out of the overflow tube on my car. I feel kinda stupid about asking this, but is it just meaning that there is too much coolant in the system or can something else be wrong. Just worried about having spent $5,000 and maybe losing my investment.

It's broken...you'll probably need to buy a new car now.

but on another note what did the temp gauge read when this happened?

I've been monitoring everything closely and the gauge has never gone over 180 so idk why it just came out of the overflow tube. Wasn't sure if I still had an air pocket in the system or what it might be.

Can air in the system cause this? I have the same problem about 90% of the time when I shut off after normal driving conditions and temp. I have coolant leak from under the cap though?!?!?!?.....from what I could tell.

A bad cap will make your coolant boil.

Gm price is $16 for a new one. A leak fro mthe cap is a dead give away.

As far as coolant spewing out the tip if it hasn't been over filled somethign is making it boil. What I would do is let the car idel for a few minutes, and take the fill tube cap off and monitor the coolant level... see if it starts rising.
