Coolant going into the oil pan

Hello everyone, im having a problem with my rebuild... everything is tightened to specs and connected properly, but when it comes to filling up the radiator we noticed that as soon as we put coolant into it it all starts POURING out from the oil pan drain. Can anyone please help me out as to what it can be. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated

Two things come to mind and neither are good. Since the intake manifold is dry, the only possibilities I can think of are a cracked block or bad head gaskets allowing coolant into the valley. Since the head gaskets that leak into the valley also leak on the outside edge of the head, this isn't likely. If you didn't use sealer on the head bolts the system would leak but it wouldn't pour out of the oil pan. I think you have a cracked block.....sorry

Did you use LT1 specific head gaskets?

can the block actually crack just by sitting there, because before the rebuild it was in excellent working conditions.. only reason it was taken apart was because the thread on the header bolt holes was stripped, so I took them to get redone

yeah, I took off the heads to redo the thread on them, and since it was already halfways apart I just decided to take it all apart and put on a comp cams extreme energy cam and lifter kit when I was putting it back together

Unfortunately it's something you did then. For coolant to POUR into the oil pan something is ruined, be it in the block or cylinder heads.

Re: Coolant going into the oil pan

I have seen this once before on an lt1. A friend of mine had the exact same problem. Everyone thought it was the head gasket. As it turned out, the cylinder wall was split. We thought it was caused by either a previous rebuild with to much over bore or a casting flaw from brand new with too much core shift. When you had the heads off did you look at the tops of the pistons to see if they were marked .030 or .040 or the like? Possibly from a previous rebuild.

no, I didn't check for that, my friend is the one that put the pistons back on... I guess its back to step 1 and take apart the motor again.
