The obvious would be the stud(s) is/are not sealed. Seems to happen to a lot of people with studs. What was used to seal them?

Heck yeah, it's going to be a problem. The cooling system is meant to be sealed tight. I would be concerned that if one was leaking, others will too (and inside the valve cover). Cooling passages can get clogged by RTV. I would not use if for sealing threads. A non-hardening sealer should be used.

As I always say when this comes up, USE #2 SEALANT, only use this stuff. I along with quite a few others have never had a problem using it on head studs, while others use the arp sealant, other thread sealants, rtv, etc, etc and it all leaks.

The permatex #2 seems very "slick" for some wierd reason and I would be worried about something coming loose. I noticed this once when I used it on rocker studs.
