Sorry I thought it had a built BB in it.

Now that I see it doesnt have a built motor, I can say, with about 99% confidence, that your trap speed of the f body will be higher than its top speed. I bet that car would run no better than a low 15 1/4 ... Its a ****in boat ...

Heck. I'm running a budget forged 355ci. I have maybe 3500.00 in the heads, cam and shortblock. I have a used 5140 GM steel crank milled .20 thousands, Eagle I beam rods, and SRP flatop pistons with LE2 heads and a CC503 cam. I ran 12.42@109 N/A in a 4400 lb boat. In your terms thats 12.0's high 11's. Stick with the LT1. With my NOS setup I hope to see mid 11's

You are going about this all the wrong way. I guarantee you will have problems with a 42 year old car that will rival what you are going through now. It isn't worth it unless you have and like to throw money at it. What could go wrong? The possibilities are endless...
4 grand for a 355 bottom end is ridiculous.

ya, bad idea. I even did the research on what this motor could do, what a POS. The only thing about the LT1 is if I'm gonna build it it will have to hold like 750+rwhp. That is gonna cost some serious cash even in a forged 355. Im lookin at close to 3500$ for the right internals alone. The cam, oil pump driveshaft, and a LOT of stuff was blown w/ the motor. I am not even sure if I can re-use the heads. But, I definitly like the look of the lt1 100x better, and the lighter car with better aerodynamics always better. This was just a cheap car I was seeing how fast it would go, and that isnt fast at all. back to the drawing boards.

Stick with it.Mine is carb and distr.I know you can put any old style SBC parts in it.I'm going to a solid roller lifter cam but I don't drive my car on the street.
Everybody seems to be going LS1.
Not me.I like that I can put old school parts in my engine.
F the computer, trans, etc. The stock GM comp. is not consistent and it can blow your tranny at any time.
Hang in there. No LS`1 will outrun me.If so only once.

Re: Convince Me To Stay Lt1/lt4!

what is a good transmission (auto or manual) for drag? I was thinking about just replacing the input shaft for the t56 w/ a 32spline(maybe 31) instead of the stocker and hoping it lasts through some real power, but I dont see that happening... any ideas?
