Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
I thought id get something interesting going here out of bordom and curiosity. Lets here what some people are running in the way of 10-11 sec combos that are streetable, and fairly tuneable (by tunable i mean that you dont have to run a freeky tune at the track to get decent times) and you can still drive it like crazy. Oh, and lets make it interesting, lets keep it pump gas and natural aspiration. Thanks for the space to blabber, Prorac1
Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
See sig...no rocket science, just a simple 383 combo with 11.2:1 comp on pump gas, small Joe O. cam, LPE LT1 heads freshened by EB Porting, shorties, Borla cat back, built 4L60E w/ 3600 Vig, Strange 12 bolt w/ 3.73s and a bunch of Spohn/Hotchkis bolt on stuff. The kicker is that I run 16x8 stock 5 stars all around with M/T DRs and both sway bars in...stock springs/shocks, too...Got 21 mpg on hwy during last long trip...could easily be a daily driver and you probably wouldn't give it a second look at the local cruise in...
...and during the track outing it ran 5 runs all within .03 of each other at 118mph, so its fairly consistent, too...

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
yeah, thats what im talkin about. What kinda flow numbers on the heads. I know another one ive heard a lot about is the loyd elliot heads and a joe overton cam
Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
I wish I could tell you what the flow numbers were...There were numbers written on each port when we got the heads back from Eric, but at the time we had to go thru Joe to get Eric and I was never able to...I guess he keeps flow #s for duplication purposes, and I did see a lot of port work had been done. We were in a hurry to put everything together and I trusted Joe wouldn't screw me so they went on the motor and I still dont know the flow. They are LT1s with 2.00/1.56 valves previously installed by LPE and CNC/hand ported by LPE back in 1995..Eric just apparently, judging by the fresh port work on both intake and exhaust, "found more air", they have new double springs to handle to new cams higher lift, and retained the LPE titanium retainers...
I'll work on getting the numbers, but regardless, I'm real satisfied with the results...

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
I drive mine in the street with pump gas. My car is set up a little more radical than Alan though with a TH350 and a bigger cam.
Alan, my heads flow about 250cfm with the stock sized valves, so I'm sure that yours flow a little better than that. CFM means nothing without knowing how it was attained

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
I just got off the phone with EB Porting...He said my flow sheet was on his computer but he had a couple of flow #s to give me...exhaust flowed 180cfms @ .550" lift and intake flowed 258 cfms @ .550"...He's going to email me the sheet when he gets back to his computer...He said that the heads were very respectable and they should be working well with the cam Joe selected...I'd say he's right...

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
This is a great idea for a thread!
BTW you guys are putting my head flow numbers in perspective here- it's one thing to read numbers on websites, or people's claims, but it's a lot more helpful to read actual flow numbers that people are using. For instance, my heads flowed mid 240's intake before a valve job, and about 180 exhaust before valve job and a backcut. I was afraid that I wouldn't have the head flow to get to where I wanted to be. I did go in later and do some more work in the chambers to get some more low lift flow. I feel pretty good about getting solid 11's now if I can get the power down!

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
FastZ...your car should fly if the rest of the car will work well for you...My cam is much smaller than yours...22X/23X .568" lift...As far as getting the power down get some Spohn stuff and those little M/T DRs ...255 50 R16s...on some 16x8 stockers...you won't be disappointed...My car looks so stock its pathetic...you'd walk right passed it in a parking lot, but boy does it hook and go....

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
I know you said you wanted to keep it NA, but the easiest way to keep something streetable is to run nitrous. I am planning on going with an LE1 package and then 100-150 shot on top of that. Should be easy 11's all day long and very streetable.
Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
Alan,
I've heard nothing but good things about the M/T drag radials. I realized a long time ago that lots of power isn't fun without traction, and since this car has become somewhat of a weekend toy I can afford to just run drag radials on it. I'll be picking up a set of those tires, and upgrading the suspension as funds allow. Do you know the best place to get Spohn stuff from??

Re: Streetable, easily tuned, fast, LT1 combos
FastZ..I am lucky to live an hour from Spohn, so I drive up there and get the stuff directly from them. Steve and Gordon are great to deal with, too. I have their tunnel brace mounted TA with two DS loops, the LCAs with rod ends, and the 1" moly rear sway bar. The panhard bar is an old Hotchkis that came on the car when I got it and the SFCs are old welded Hotchkis that were also already on the car....I'll probably replace the panhard bar with an adjustable Spohn rod ended one soon since the Hotchkis is 10 years old...But like I said I get the stuff directly from them and I think thats a good way to go in case of any issues you may have with their stuff (you won't, but if you get it from them there can be no issues, if you know what I mean...)
