Question Converting ODBII to ODBI Speed Density

I have a 97' Z28 ODBII and would like to know if I could convert to a 93' Formula ODBI Speed Density? If so is there a link explaining the conversion of hardware. I have everything I need as for computers and can even burn my own chips with my CATS software but I am not sure what I need to do on the hardware side. I'm sure the MAF would be no more but any help would be appreciated.

Just swap harnesses and use the 97 opti harness on your 93 engine wiring harness. You'll also need to swap the current knock sensor to a 93 one. Other than that, you don't need anything else.

But I have a 97 and my friend has the 93 I don't have his harness, just his computer, and the ability to burn the chips with CATS software. Or did I misunderstand what you said Wolf? Thanks.

Well if you want to convert to JUST speed density, your PCM can be reprogrammed for it. If you want to convert to a 93 ECM setup, you will need the 93 harness as well because the connectors are totally different.

DAMN... I was hoping to just do minor stuff to convert. Just because I could tune my own stuff without going to some shop paying 400 bucks or sending it off to PCM for less blah blah ....a wiring harness sounds like a pain and more than I want to tackle for now. I guess I'm back to looking for a bootleg copy of LT1 EDIT for ODBII ...be a cold day in hell

Not that I would recommend it, but you won't be able to get a bootleg copy of OBDII lt1_edit (and not even OBDI lt1_edit). They have special cables which are VIN locked.
You can either convert to OBDI and get programming software for like $90 or have your OBDII programmed instead. I can help with both if you're interested.

I was aware I couldn't I was jez bored and pissed. But yes I am interested in doing something where I can program my own stuff. So do you recommend say like a 95 ODBI and does that harness interchange just fine? They do that here in Houston all the time but I'm just not familiar with what all is involved. I don't care about getting my ODBII tuned unless I can do it myself, I want the independent ability. And yes I'm aware of LT1 EDIT for ODBII for $500 bucks and would consider it maybe when the stroker was done.

Harnesses will interchange, you will just need a 94-95 PCM and a 94-95 knock sensor in the block, or if you're getting an OBDI conversion, you won't need to swap the knock sensor.

Is it better to go speed density or MAF?

Check my website's order page.... www.madz28.com

As far as the other question, I like MAF systems much more than Speed Density ones. And just think that almost all of today's (at least GM) applications are MAF based...
