02 sensor question

has anyone ever converted to a 1 wire o2sensor on the obd1 lt1 equiped cars. if not is there a way to or is there a place i can find them cheaper than 52 bucks each. this is my 3rd set of o2s in the last 5 months and im tired of paying 110 bucks each time. i accidentaly got wd40 on the ones on the car when i had them out while i was installing a cutout and new headers. didnt think the wd40 messed with the o2 but when i got the car back together the o2 voltage was way low so i have concluded they are [EDIT].

can you convert a 4 wire o2 sensor setup on a 94 camaro z28 to a 1 wire o2 sensor setup.

you could make one work but i have to ask why?

I would say the easiest way would be to buy a set of o2 sensor eliminators that will plug into the flat style o2 plug on your car and then cut the signal wire off the eliminator and connect it to the 1 wire o2.

what you would be doing would be putting a resistance on the heater circuit so you dont throw a MIL and just getting your signal from the 1 wire o2.

IMHO i think its a waste of time, if your doing it to save money just buy a set of universal 4 wire sensors for like 20 bucks each and splice them to your old plugs from your old sensors. there is a reason for the 4 wire setup, its better plain and simple. heats up faster for less carbon fouling, reads faster, and reads more precisely.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do,

Re: 02 sensor question

Stock 4-wires are about $35 each from the sources mentioned most frequently on this forum.... "search" on Jason Cromer of Dal Slabaugh.

The PCM on the cars with 4-wire sensors checks the "heater" circuit. If its not there, you'll get an SES light and a code. The heater helps the sensors reach the required operating temperature faster, and will help if you have long tube headers that locate the sensors farther from the engine.

You're doing something wrong if you managed to ruin 3 sets of sensors in 5 months. Do you use "sensor safe" RTV? Are you running leaded fuel?

Please do NOT post the same question under two different threads.

Merging with the other one......

can you point me in the direction of where to get 20 buck universal o2 sensors cheapest i have found is 45 bucks each..

and i am not doing anything wrong

1st set went into the 95 z28
2nd set went into the 94 z28
3rd set has to go in the 94 becuse i changed out my headers from a used set of pacesetters to a set of macs and i pulled the sensor so i didnt break it if i had to ****** on the headers to get them out. and i sprayed some wd40 on a bolt and accidentaly got the sensor wet with iot and wd40 screws up o2sensors. so i need a new one.

It wasn't real clear from your original post that you bought 3 sets of O2 sensors for multiple cars. It sounded like you kept installing them in the same car. And, getting WD-40 on them might qualify as "doing something wrong".
