Re: connecting rods

H Beams are overkill. If Dwane Gutridge runs them in a 1000+ HP 7 sec car on DR's (Mustang) then a 500hp car is not going to need them. A Eagle or Scat I beam will be MORE THAN ENOUGH ROD!!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY! Hell I sell H beams and I beams and I would make more selling the H's but it's just not right!

Re: connecting rods

well, they might be overkill some, but he'll be making 600plus HP on the juice. arent the Ibeams rated to only 500HP? and Im assuming he will rev it higher then 6000rpm too. Im sure the little extra weight would be the only draw back to the extra strength. Im still glad I did the hbeams.

SStrokerAce:

Is a Scat 9000 crank or equivalant necessary for 400HP N/A setup? I am debating on sticking with my stock crank, but dont wanna short change myself.

I have done many searches and have only found 2 posts reguarding a broken stock crank.

Re: connecting rods

My Manley 6" 4340 H-Beams cost me $560.

You stated you're using Sealed Power pistons. You might want to check to see if you can safely run a 200 shot with them. I looked just about everywhere until I found that Ross makes a set of flat top nitrous pistons that are rated up to a 250 shot. One important factor of a nitrous piston is to find a piston with the top ring down further from the piston crown. JE only makes domed nitrous pistons, which would give me 14:1 compression if I didn't have the dome milled off. Ross makes a flat top that has the top ring .200" down. The price of $600 is pretty good, too.

Re: connecting rods

What should be done and can be done are two totally different stories. I know someone on this board who is using a 200 shot with the sealed pistons and has had good luck with them so far. Im not saying that the product is garanteed up to that high of juice. I am just stating that it can and is being done. I think as long as you have the correct fuel monitoring it can be done. I plan on a 150 shot with the same setup.

Re: connecting rods

this is what i'm going with... they're forged 4340 I beams... and says it'll handle upto 700hp... and i'm doing this motor as a turbo motor.... they're great with a tight budget too (like myself)

http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...922&CtgID=1133

• NEW Forged High Tensile 4340 Chromoly Steel
• 7/16" ARP/Scat 8740 Cap Screw
•Lightweight "I" Beam construction • Each forging is x-rayed, sonic tested & magnafluxed
• Shot peened to stress relieve surfaces
• Packaged in weight matched sets ± 1 grams
• Small block rated to 700 HP
• $ 255.00

I bought it from salle chevy for 251 shipped to my door, without shippig it was 239
