compression math

im trying to figure out how much i need to take off the head to get 10.8:1 compression stock bottom end on a lt1. The machine shop is full of idiots and they can't do the math so im seeing if you guys can put the figures together

my head gasket is .045 compressed

how much needs to get shaved off the head for 10.8:1 compression?

Re: compression math

However much milling is required to get about 63cc combustion chambers. There is a compression calculator under the services section of this website. I just guessed and checked until the compression was 10.8 with .045 gasket thickness. I couldn't tell you how much milling gets a head to 63cc's though.

Re: compression math

Assuming 10.5 starting compression you need to take out 2.5cc of chamber volume to reach 10.8 Those heads are most likely .006" per cc removal on flat mill so cut about .015"

That is just an estimate...with all assumptions that is as close as you are going to get.
