Compression fittings for fuel lines
Compression fittings for fuel lines
Ok here is the deal. Im swapping in an LT1 into my 96 s-10. Now the fuel lines are WAY different. Ive heard that earls, aeroquip, or somebody makes a compression fitting to a -6 fitting. My question is will a compression fitting hold the 40+ psi of fuel pressure? Ive used them on trans lines but not higher pressure. Ive heard of this being done but never saw it on a running vehicle. So will a compression fitting hold 40+psi? Thats the only other alternative other than getting the fittings TIG welded on to the fuel rail. I dont even think its possible to tig them onto a 93 rail.
Or if you have other alternatives please let me know. Thanks-Joe

Re: Compression fittings for fuel lines
Yes, I'd say a compression fitting will hold. They're used in all the plumbing in houses to seal all the water fittings at 80psi or so.
I used flare/AN fittings on my fuel system though, so I'm not speaking from experience.

Re: Compression fittings for fuel lines
It would probably hold but personally I would use flare fittings. Leaking water is one thing, leaking fuel is quite dangerous. Hate to see your car burn to the ground.
Re: Compression fittings for fuel lines
In a Chevy High Performance magazine a couple of months ago they had a article about swapping a lt1 into a 3rd gen. They used adapters to go from the old lines to the new lines, if I find it I'll let you know. It may be very helpfull.

I used the ones from www.purechoicemotorsports.com and they worked very well for me. If you need pics, I have some.

Also, go to www.lt1nova.com and click on the picture of the nova. Then click on the picture of the fittings and he has detailed pictures of how he used the Pure Choice adapters to do an LT1 swap into his Nova.
Re: Compression fittings for fuel lines
Arent those pure choice fittings like $70 a set? I read on here that people are using russell tube fittings on them with success. I may just try those and for $8 a fitting i cant go wrong.
