Compression

Hello what is the highest compression I could run when planning to use either 91 or 93 octane gas? Thanks!

Depends entirely on how good your tune is.

I am over 13:1 but I have a decent tune and keep it nice and cool. 91 pump gas. If I put it in 6th and floor it she will detonate. But under normal driving or racing conditions its fine. Loves the bottle too.

A note on heat, my car can not over heat now simply because it wont run past @ 220. She runs 170 pretty much all the time on the temp gauge.

Alright so let me get this right, I can use any compression and any fuel type as long as I get my computer tuned for it correct? Thanks!

Lol, don't just take that thought and run with it. Do some searches on dynamic compression ratio.

The rule of thumb if I recall correctly is to stay below 9.0 on your dynamic. I think a target of 8.5-9 is good. While my static is high, my dynamic actually falls about right with a fairly large cam.

What are your goals? Ever want a poweradder? Doing the whole bottom end?

Everything has to be in harmony, and that everything encompasses A LOT!

YEs right now I'm in the middle of a 383 rebuild http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku and a summit tech told me that my compression would be around 10.4:1 with the LE1 heads I'm going to run with. I'm just trying to hit the 400hp. I upgraded almost everything else pushrods, guideplates, nsa rockers pro mag, 30lbs injectors, 52mm throttle, borla catback exhaust, mid length edelbrock headers and I still need a torque converter(2800-3200rpm), gasket set and computer tuning.

Your IVC point will determine your static compression,
Ya need to stay UNDER 9.0 DYNAMIC compression on 92 octane and that's with a good tune. Ya also need GOOD cooling.
