thats not the problem...the tip is not centered on the valve tip...they will either jump off and break/bend PR or wear the guides out

remove the valve cover and look over the fender and see how the rocker sits on the valve tip. It NEEDS TO BE sitting in the center of the valve and the Comps (or any other guide plate made for a standard SB Chevy) will have the pushrods sitting off to the side a lil. This will put lots of stress on the valve and valve guide resulting in prematurely worn guides.

The isky adjustables are the best choice if you take the time to get everything centered. The best "non adjustable" guide plate to just bolt down is the Trick Flow 30400623-8 guide plates.

Here is how to get the right PR length while you are at it. . . . .

post # 5 explains it all very well. Just use a real week valve spring from hardware store in place of your valve spring. This allows you to reuse your stock hyd roller lifter with out compressing the plunger in the lifter as this would throw off the pushrod measurement.

Get the Manley 42355-8 guide plates. I have them and they fit perfectly.
Chad at Golen uses them too.

never heard of them personally, but it might be a good idea to go with one of the well known companies listed in this thread that are known to work in a LT1

Brand does not matter looking and making sure things line up matters. The LT1 spacing is not quite the same as what most plates are made for. I used the GMPP plates for a year and while they lined up better than Comp they were still not great, I suspect the TricFlows are the same way. That is why I went to Isky adjustables.

After 8K or something like that the GMPP did have some wear too them.

I can second that. After seeing those yesterday we could only pick out some that looked better than others but all were worn pretty good!

I should have dug out the Comps to show the different spacing. I just compared them and if you lineup one slot the other slot is by eyeball nearly 1/16" off, the GMPP ones are closer but still not quite right, meaning the Comps are way off.
