Comp CC 305 vs. Comp CC 306

Which cam is going to be the better choice for me, I have the mods that are in my signature, plus I am in the process of adding a 58 MM TB, Pacesetter long tube race headers, FP regulator, heads and intake ported and matched, and 1.6 RR......also while were at it which is the best choice of 1.6 RR to go with. On top of this I am going to be running a 150-200 shot of NOS, so I am trying to make sure I make the right choice in cam, trying to get everything to compliment each other to the best I can and for the right price......

Well it's really going to depend on the heads. If the heads will support it, the 306 will make more power, but you're going to have to wind the motor up higher to get it. Who ported your heads? Do you have flow numbers on them? We really need to know what you're working with in order to match them up properly. As far as roller rockers go, the Comp 1.6 Pro Magnums are really strong and are actually as light or lighter at the valve than aluminum rockers.

the heads are going to flow in the neighborhood of 270cfm with 1.940 intake valves............and the intake is going to be ported to match.....

Depends on your needs.
The CC305 powerband will be slightly higher than stock cam but make significant more power. The manners of daily driving like stop and go will be better because of the better low end power. It will rev to around 6.3K RPM on ported heads.

The CC306 powerband will be much higher than stock and make the most power of the two cams. The manners of daily driving compared to stock cam will be impaired some but this is a matter of opinion. Many people complain about cam surge and bucking when daily driving at RPM's less than 3K. It will rev to 6.6K with ported heads. This cam wants to rev high.

You need to decide what fits your needs.

I'd go for a GM847 over a CC306 personally...

You don't want to rev past 6k? Forget a cam and look elsewhere...

And no, a cc305 won't get you 350rwhp on stock heads.. especially if you choke it to 6k rpm.

You gotta pay to play.

Not without ported heads, maybe ~330 RWHP.

See sig, flowing that much you want the 306 or larger to make the most of the heads, my numbers are on the stock heads and lower end. I shift at around 6600

before you even do a cam or ported heads i personnally think with the mileage you have stated, you should freshen that Lt1 up. new performance bearings, oil pump, timing chain, new rings if the bore is still within spec. at this point you can spin this motor the way it needs to be.
forget that old cc3o6,847 style is the way to go,you will thank yourself later on...

I would be worried about installing any cam in a 170k motor, even if you did keep the revs down. That's asking for a rebuild IMO.

Its already been done numerous times, granted both cars reved to 6200 but none the less got there. both cars were M6.
