Comp Cams 1102-16 roller rocker arms
Comp Cams 1102-16 roller rocker arms
Looking at these for my LT1 93 firehawk.
Comp Cams 1102-16 Rocker Arms - Performance Parts
Any one know if there SA - self aligning? I heard they are pretty good any other opinions?
Going with a CC 503 or LT4 hotcam and new valve springs?
Thanks

Re: Comp Cams 1102-16 roller rocker arms
Non-self aligning. Impressive, but overkill for the cams you are looking at. Consider the Comp Ultra Pro Mag's for what you are doing. I think the CC Ultra Pro Mag, 1.6X, 3/8", SA part # is 1618-16.
Even the Ultra Pro Mags may be more than you need. I have the original CC Pro Mags (not as strong as the Ultra, and no longer made, as far as I know) and have had reliable results in a solid roller camshaft setup that has 0.590" lift, beefy springs and a 7,400RPM redline.

Re: Comp Cams 1102-16 roller rocker arms
Thanks for the input. I like those Ultra Pro mag 1618-16. Decent price to. Did more research and looks like these GM 19210729 roller rockers may be the way to go if i can get them used. Found a used set local for 250. less that 1500 miles on them. If I have to buy new I will go with the Ultra Pro mag 1618-16.

Re: Comp Cams 1102-16 roller rocker arms
When the LT4 engine came out, it was equipped with 1.6X Crane Gold roller rockers. If you buy an LT4 HOT cam kit, you get essentially the same rockers. As I recall, Crane went out of business and Comp Cams started making the golds. Then someone bought Crane in 2009 and now they are making the golds again.
ROLLER ROCKER ARMS
The LT1's stamped steel rocker arms exhibited ball galling at 6400 rpm, so modified Crane roller rockers were substituted in the LT4 with lock nut and set screws to replace the conventional ball and friction nuts. Shims were added to maintain the valve stem accurately and the stud slot widened. The roller axle reduces friction measurably, the 2 lbs-ft reduction increasing economy and responsiveness. The rocker arms also have a roller tip. The LT4 has 1.6:1 and LT1 has 1.5:1 Rocker Ratio.
LT1 vs LT4
In very general terms, the chrome moly Ultra Pro Mags are atronger than the aluminum rocker arms, and actually lighter than some aluminum rockers. But I know people who have run the Cranes in high revving engines for a long, long time.

Re: Comp Cams 1102-16 roller rocker arms
Good information on the rocker arms and motors. I thought about going with the LT4 rocker arms GM PART # 12557779 (CRANE) awhile back. In fact I found a set on Ebay the other day. These are the original new rocker arms for a LT4. I did some research and they are different from the GM hotcam kit part # 19210729. The # 12557779 (CRANE) require a 10mm stud and have a locking nut( torque to 25 ft lbs) instead of a poly lock and a 3/8 stud on the # 19210729.
The # 12557779 (CRANE) was also a replacement roller rocker for the recall on the failed rocker arms on the LT4 corvette. I think I will go with the ultra pro mags.
Solid and proven, works for me.
Here is a link to the LT4 new roller rocker arms. A good find for OEM.http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-PART-12557779-CRANE-ROLLER-ROCKER-ARMS-NEW-IN-BOX-1996-CORVETTE-LT4-16-/331140551588?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d1983d3a4&vxp=mtr
