Cold start bottom end rattle.....

Well I fired my car up this morning and I just did an oil change and I put in the usual Valvoiline 10W30 and now at about 2K thru 2500 in first I have a light but noticable rattle till the motor warms up to normal operating temp (about 170-180) and the oil pressure drops down from about 60-70psi (when cold) back to 20-30(when warm). How long will it last like this if i take it easy? Is it too late to stick a new set of bearings in it? Thanks for all your help.

let a good mechanic listen to your engine.

if it is noise in the bottom end, thats serious s***

cheaper to rebuild a working engine than a blown one!

dont worry about the noise, my 96 ss makes the same type of rattle when cold and my old 95 that i bought brand new made the same noise as well, i always thought it was a rod knock and when i went to the dealer to have it looked at they said it will make that type of noise for a few min untill the exhaust heats up, has something to do with the flow of the gasses when the engine is cold, sounds weird i know but i got this info from a gm tech who has been at the same chevy dealer fo the last 30 years... so i dont even worry about it and my cars have been fine for many years

The LT1s are pretty bad at piston slap when the motor is cold. If you're hearing that, don't worry about it.

Mine does that every morning, always has. I take it easy on the throttle and shift at low RPMs (<3000) until it heats up. It doesn't seem to make as much noise in the lower RPM band.

Thanks for the info guys, I was really worried. This is my first winter with my LT1, had an L98 befor, and I noticed that the other day. The noise made me really sick. I was already priceing rebuild parts for a 396 lol. Still might build the 396 though. HEHEHE. Thanks agian.
