cold air intake

a buddy of mine recently purchased a chrome cold air intake of ebay, i told him not to and by from a reputable company but he didnt listen. well we installed it in place of the factory and then i realized there was no plug for the IAT sensor. well we started it up and it ran fine, then when we drove it, it would shift oddly and then the service engine soon light came on. does the iat sensor cause this, has anyone else experienced this. any help would be appreciated greatly, thanks.

oh and his camaro is a 97 z, same as mine, but bone stock

Absolutely.

Are all other required connections on the intake? You can move the IAT
further upstream, closer to the actual air inlet. The PCM uses feedback
from the IAT.

(Sidenote: my bike has an IAT, which I've modified with a variable resister
in-line to deal with the harsh temperatures with the south-central Texas heat).

the breather tube is on the intake, but thats it. can we take the whole sensor and move it somewhere else, but where, im somewhat mechanically inclined but he has no idea. my cold air came with the place for it. but his didnt.

im completely stumped. my only thought is to do what you said and move it. how would i do this in detail. thanks.

Many folks move the IAT to where "colder" air would be, which would
mean moving in front of the MAF. This is the obvious, stock, location:

You can move it anywhere along the intake tubes. Obviously, you will
have to build a "wire extension" if you move it upstream, closer to the
filter. You will need some sort of grommet (possibly) so that the IAT
will fit tightly within it, and then that grommet will fit wherever it is
along the intake tubes you have decided to move it.

he means the sensor can be moved basically anyplace that you want but the wire it attaches to is only so long so an extension may be needed depending on how far from the stock location you decide to put it.

so long as the sensor is plugged in and getting a reading to the computer the SES light should not come on. even if the sensor is just sip tied to the filter element.

Isn't the IAT sensor on the elbow, not the cold air intake?

If so just use the stock elbow with the rest of the Cold Air Intake.

If the SES light is on, there is still an active problem. It will turn itself off if you fix the problem. As long as his IAT sensor was still plugged into the harness, it would not have set a code. It doesn't have to be physically in the air stream to the engine. If its a speed-density 93, it will screw things up though, if it wasn't reporting the correct inlet air temp. On the MAF cars, the impact would be neligible.

Don't you have to disconnect the PCM from the Battery and then the code will clear (or return if it is still there)?
