Question Cold air intake

What are the advantages to having a cold air intake? I have a 94 z28 and I was thinking of buying one and putting it in. Also I saw a replacement air intake duct on e-bay. It goes between the MAF and the throttle body. Elbow shaped. The one I have on now is stock and has the noise silencer piece that drops down in front of the radiator. The one I saw did not have the noise silencer and was advertised as giving more horsepower. Is this a gimmick or is it for real? I have to replace it anyway. The dealer wants 165.00 and the one on e-bay is around 65.00 with the sensor included.

I have an SLP cold air intake (pics on cardomain page in my sig)
I definitely felt a huge difference in power. If you need to replace the stock elbow (DO NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE UNLESS YOURS IS RIPPED OR DAMAGED BECAUSE YOU WON'T GAIN JACK!)
www.ls1speed.com has the best price on the 1LE intake elbow (the part you're talking about) -- $57.99 and it's where I got mine from (I ripped it when doing a throttle body bypass/160 thermostat)

Hope this info helps.

Matt

Cold air=dense air=more power. The 1LE intake doesn't give any real hp per say, but if yours if torn, it's a good buy. Got mines from Sam Taylor for $45. You will need one for a 94 1LE part number

I also have an slp cold air....dont spend that much on a stock plastic peice of crap...for like 15$ more you can get the slp

Also Cmroz28 what do you think about taking out the plastic peice under the 2 air filters on the slp....i was just wondering about water getting up in there when it rained.

eh......I wouldn't take that thing off. It would make it easier to take off the filters for cleaning and stuff, but I wouldn't want to risk getting water into the engine.....better safe than sorry. The consequences in my opinion arent worth the extra 1 or 2 horsepower which won't even be noticed.

Sam Taylor Buick Cadillac, (877-726-8295 - Ask for
Jason Cromer in the parts department).

He should have the best prices on anything.
Also, check out www.gmpartsdirect.com but they usually kill you on shipping (my upper dash panel's shipping was $45 from north carolina to florida!)
