Time for brakes, what to get?

My brakes are starting to squeal a lot now. So it is time for them to be replaced. What kind should i go with. On thunderracing they have a whole kit for like $549 that has powerslot rotors, and hawk brakes. Sould i get some aftermarket upgrades or should i just get some pads from like autozone or something like that?

do you know you need new rotors?? Try and see if they can be turned before you buy new ones. As for brake pads I just bought EBC greenstuff..they are great.. Ceramic and practically dust free

i just did my rear brakes (rotors and pads). I got all my stuff from autozone. The rotors were $18 a piece and the pads were $20. Unless your really set on spending 549 i would recommend this setup. I am very pleased with it.

What was the brand you got from autozone? I will probably do that for now. I just wanted to know if anybody had that kit and how they liked it.

See sig for the Red A4 Car.

LS1 upgrade w/ new rotors and pads can be had for less than $450. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worth it. No since in sticking kick-a** pads on small, shi**y rotors, squeezed by a big dumb (aka one piston) caliper.

You can get the Wilwood front kit with two piece 13" rotors and 6-piston calipers for around $1100. It's a great value.

If you just want a decent setup that works good go for the autozone rotors and Performance Friction pads.
Cheap and works great for stock.
I have the PF pads but I upgraded to AIMCO Extreme rotors that are cross drilled and slotted, so far they work excellent. Autozone sells these rotors for about 100 bucks each.
LS1 upgrade is definately worth it and can be had for about the same price as the Extreme rotors and pads.
This is probably the setup I will go with in the future.

Yes they are a great value, but no, they were more like $1346, ask me how I know. (See sig)

Actually I haven't totally completed my install yet but I have felt this brake kit on other cars, and it rocks beyond description. Of course, this is probably way beyond what most people want to spend.

If you are willing to spend that kind of money, you might consider Baer front and Autozone/PF rear. I wouldn't expect the Powerslots to perform a lot better than stock. The Baer fronts are definitely a step up from LS1 fronts.

Id advise against slotted rotors and cross drilled from both an economic and *gasp* performance point of view.

Especially on the rear- dont bother upgrading the rear brakes unless you are doing some serious road racing.

Ceramic pads are a bad idea as well unless you are doing road racing.

upfront, i am going to do the Baer brakes with blank rotors and use stock rear brakes. You can do the LS1 brake upgrade, Zr1, C5 or aftermarket.

LS1 and C5 probobly being the best bang for the buck. the twin piston is really key

If you mean the front kits, I wouldn't say so. The Sport and Track kits are nothing but an LS1 upgrade, and the GT/GT+ kit is the C5 upgrade.

People thought I was crazy for ordering my Wilwood setup with *gasp* blank rotors.

I still cant understand why people get them. they look retarded to me too. It knocks a solid $200 off the price too
