coil wire question
#3
One easy way to see if the coil is going south,is to pull up to the garage door(or wall),and rev the engine, and see if the lights flicker a lot. That use to be a good way to tell, but I dunno. On my car, it's coil wire time about every 6 months or so.Hope this helps.

I remember you were having probs w/ the 5k rpm miss...did you ever get that fixed? is this related. Just to let you know, i changed my coil and got a new wire and fixed the problem right up.
edit: forgot to answer your question. it would seem to me there would be no reason for there to be power in the wire until you accually try to start the engine. just a guess.

I just replaced my coil wire on the weekend and made a noticable difference - the old wire had a lot of corrosion built up inside it as well as on the coil terminal. I put a good coating of dielectric grease on the inside of the boot to help seal it better from the elements like moisture.
