code p1351

Hey all. I replaced my opti and water pump this week. 1st time I started it up I got an immediate code of p1351. I had the icm tested and it was ok... its brand new. So im at a loss. The car runs and starts good. The clerk at AZ said that the wiring harness might have a short? Are those easy to replace? Just wanna get my baby back! Any help is appreciated

I would check the wiring around the coil / ICM. Coil could be weak. Check the ground wiring for sure.

Checkout shoebox's site below.

Coil is new. The mechanic replaced it slong with the icm. So maybe he shorted my wiring harness out?

Confusing - You indicate you got the P1351 on initial startup, checked ICM and it was OK. Then you say "The car runs and starts good." Are you still seeing P1351? Have you cleared it? Is there any evidence of a problem besides the code?

I cleared the code. Then started It back up and It came on right away. Other than a little hesitation on cranking it fires up and runs great so far. I haven't driven the car yet, just started it a couple of times. I pulled the icm out yesterday and had them test it 10x and it was good. Could it be my wiring harness or the new coil? thanks for replies

I would check the spring tension of the ICM connector terminals and maybe take a close look at the integrity of the connector wires to the terminals.

The little clip that holds the icm harness into the icm is broken. The harness stays in there good but it does come out with an easy pull. The wiring looks decen and somewhat pliable

A new pigtail would be a cheap attempt at a fix. Something appears to be losing contact ar the first turn of the key.

Re: code p1351

Update

I installed the new pigtail and started it up. It was a hard start but it fired up. The p1351 code came right on immediately. The car ran good though. I shut it off and cleared the code. I then went to try to start it back up and it would only crank. After 5min went past I tried to start it again and it started and ran really well. The p1351 came back however so I cleared it once more. Could I have a bad "new" icm? It does say "made in taiwan" on it LOL.

Re: code p1351

I'm probably just going to order an AcDelco ICM from Summit...maybe a Delco coil too. Get that foreign junk outta there. I think it's causing this problem since it always started up ok with the old stuff. All these problems started when my opti crapped out and wasn't getting spark to Cyl 2 causing a missfire. Damn! I wish i had asked for my old parts back. Oh well...at least the car has a new opti, wp, plugs, wires, and hoses.

Re: code p1351

Update

It was either the ICM or the coil. I replaced the made in Taiwan junk with AC Delco parts and bam the light isnt on anymore. It also starts right up now. Hope this post helps out someone with similar issues! Glad to have her back!!!
