94 z28 hard starting but when does start ses light and fans come on-car runs fine without any miss-scanner shows code 36-only add-ons to car are bbk headers and moroso cold air intake-checked wiring connections and plugins-don't know what to do next

 

The code indicates there is a problem with the high resolution pulse signal from the optical cam position sensor in the Opti distributor. The manual indicates the engine will continue to run on the low resolution signal with a minor increase in spark scatter.

Check the short Opti harness that runs from the gray 4-wire connector on the bracket in the middle of the passenger side of the intake manifold to the Opti harness tower. Look for damaged wire and/or damaged or corroded harness connector pins on both ends of the harness. It isn't unusual for a blue corrosion layer to build up on the pins at the Opti end connector and the pins in the Opti harness tower.

 

thank you for your suggestions-checked opti-harness and used contact cleaner on them-they look fine-installed new maf (brought it back wasn't the solution)-any other suggestions would be appreciated

 

Clear the code (pull "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds), and see how fast it comes back.

 

tried pulling "pcm batt fuse" same condition ses after hard start and 5 secs. later fans come on-one thing I noticed when you shut car off it restarts right away

 

Still having problems with ses light and fans caomong on after hard start-could it be air pump related?

 

AIR pump won't cause hard starts. If you still have a code 36, it's opti related.
