Code 34
Code 34
I just picked up a 1995 Z28, auto, 105000 miles. Bought it cheap non running. Replaced the fuel pump (low pressure) and plugs. I have an ses light and the code is 34 the autoxray is showing 34 MAP/MAF low. The car seems to be running rich. When I replaced the plugs they were black and the exhaust smells rich.

Always use Shoebox's LT1 code list, not the generic readings on the scanner:

DTC 34 = Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor circuit (signal voltage low, high vacuum)
That means the PCM is seeing a MAP voltage/kPa that indicates a vacuum level that the engine is not capable of producing (codes sets when MAP is less than 14kPa). MAP sensor is faulty, or the harness connector is crumbling and making poor contact or shorting.

I went to the auto parts and was going to buy a new MAP sensor, but they don't come with the vacuum seal. I wouldnt be too worried about it but the existing one looks compromised. I am thinking of using an o ring that is thick enough to seal. Will this work. I went to three parts stores and they all have the MAP but no seal.
