Code 28 on a 93 TA Question

ECM detected the wrong potential voltage at the #3 quad-driver module circuit for 3 seconds

Anyone know what that is and how to fix it. TIA.

Re: Code 28 on a 93 TA Question

Well.. that's an awesome chart and discription. Thanks alot. However. it's not going to solve my problem now that i read it. I removed the A/C a year ago and the fan's run all the time. The problem i'm having is the car will just shut off. I know it's not the Opti so anyone with that suggestion don't worry about posting. I was thinking maybe the coil but i reset the PCM tonight and it seems to be running fine. The next thing I'm thinkin about is the VATS. I have it bypassed cause i had to replace the steering column and didn't have the VATS box to go with the column. So it maybe be possible that the resistor may be going out or has gone out. Guess I'll wait till tomorrow and see how it runs on the way to work. It run's great when it's driving. Just decides to shut off ramdomly when i come to a stop and don't keep the RPM's up. Thanks again for the post. All the codes I'm pulling now should be there since the A/C is removed. So again thanks.

Hmmmm.......ok. Random stalling points to any of a couple of things including the opti, ICM, and VATS. Of them all, the ICM can be the odds on culprit because as it fails it becomes prone to overheating.

Does the car start right back up if it stalls?

It won't start right back up. The stallin doesn't happen only when it's warmed either. It could be cold too. The reason i know it's not the opti is for one, it's brand new, and 2 it comes up as a code if it is the problem. When it stalls there's no SES light. I was thinking about swappin out the ICM since i have an extra one in the garage to see if that solves it. I really haven't had time to check it out. I drove it to work today and it seemed fine for the most part. Idle dropped a couple times but never fell off all the way. When I get the chance i'll look at it a little better. Thanks.

Not necessarily. There are two opti related codes, one for the high res pulse (DTC 36) and one for the low res pulse (DTC 16). It's VERY possible for the opti to have an internal failure and cause symptoms like yours without throwing a code. Ask me how I know. It's not unheard of for an opti to be bad right out of the box either, but let's not jump to that conclusion yet.

For testing sake, have you tried spacing the ICM from the head??? That could possibly be a temporary band-aid for the time being.

It was the computer. Swapped in a buddy's ECM and the problem is gone. Drivin around for awhile with no problems. Problem solved. Thanks for the replies.
