code 1870, and 4l60e
I just took my car to a place that ive know for long time. I had a shift kit installed and have this code eliminated. I just want to know how many of you have had this problem with there tranny? I herd it was a defect in the 4l60e but i dont know if i was lied to or not? Thanks for the help.
did it involve replacing a valve or somthing that was cracked and keeping the tranny from locking up in OD? i had a shift kit installed on my car about 2 weeks ago i ran 6 1/8th mile passes last night and on the drive home i threw and SES light. i had it scanned today and i belive it was the same code as yours, says"transmission components slipping". it is a very common problem with the 4l60e, the cylinder thing is made out of aluminum and cracks over time and abuse so a streel on is put in its place and the problem is solved. so i am having it fixed sat and then i will hopefuly begin to figure out al lthe rest of the problems with my car.
LOL....damn Gearhead, i made this post like last November..almost exactly 11 months ago. You must have done some serious searching or something to find this post.
It ended up being an electrical problem, a few of my conections where bad on the tailshaft i believe. I dont really remember though since it was so long ago. I just had to do some sottering on the wires for the plug in the tailshaft. But the 1870 thing i believe your right, something with the valve not opening or something. I forget but PLEASE post one/if you find out what it is. Thanks.

this is VERY common in the 4L60E. Probably see one car a week with it.
For heavy duty applications we eliminate the problem by blocking the valve. Only effect is firmer lock-up.
To retain PWM lock-up me us to fix kits From Sonnax. Just did it to the wifes car and it has a nice lock-up, firmer then before.
Good luck!
