code 16 and 18 on scanmaster
code 16 and 18 on scanmaster
looked it up says opti low res and injector circut.
is my opti dying? I was working fine til the Cam install now it's flakey or am I just running to lean and it is blowing out the spark?
these are somethings I heared. wanted to come on here and find some advise.
Thanks in advance!

Niether of those codes has anything to do with "blowing out the spark".
You changed the cam.... now you have Opti problems. Did you spill any coolant on the Opti during the swap? Did you check the cam dowl pin length to make sure it wasn't too long and would damage the Opti? Did yo uforce anything together during the Opti install?
DTC 16 is not unusual to see in a scan... it can set on stratup as the PCM looks for the Opti low res pulse. But it shouldn't happen all the time.... pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds and see how soon the code comes back. But if you have a misfire, loss of power at 4,500rpm, its conceivable you are having a problem with the Opti that is causing the low res pulse to be lost.
DTC 18 is an injector problem.... one of them is not showing the correct resistance when the PCM tries to fire it. You need to check the resistance of each injector (12-15ohms), then check to make sure you have +12V in the pink wire to each injector.

didja disconnect any of the injectors from the harness while it was running, trying to find a low cylinder or something? that'll give you an 18. whats it dying from? lean, valve float, cam timing off, yadayada-need a hint of what some pcm data sez.
no sir.
just started one day. I was getting on the highway and I gunned it to get to speed and it choked.
popped those codes.
Pulled PCM fuse for 2 mins, codes have not come back. but car has died twice doing the same thing.
no codes on second shut down thou.
I will check fuel injectors resistance (they have 140K miles on them)
and all opti harness wires. would a lose coil wire do this same thing?

So code 16 isn't the sign of a opti failer?
and 18, can I just buy better injectors and pop them in?
would the opti low res disconnect the fuel pump that would trigger a injector circut code?
just asking.

searches were conflicting on the problem coil or opti.
