Coating Valve Covers to reduce valvetrain noise/false knock

wondering about ceramic coating the stockers and then spraying undercoat on top to acheive a similar if not as efficient result of the LT4 valve covers for a heck of a lot less money. just a random thought so have fun with it.

Would that be cheaper than buying the LT4 valve covers or a set of Canton's?

Well, I know that the LT4 covers are well over 200 new...

Udercoating loves dirt and grime.

Dynamat would work better, if it can take the heat. It would not be attractive.

Why do you feel that the stock metal covers contribute to "false knock"?

I would just leave them alone. It isnt worth the work for such little gain if any.

they magnify or don't muffle the noise of the sa 1.6 rockers I have which is why gm went with the composite ones on the lt4. thought a cheap fix could be the aforementioned although it would be terribly ugly so ugly in fact it is probably not worth doing even if it works.

Have you determined that it's false knock? If so, have you tried a LT4 knock module?

The knock sensors are in the block. The noise transmitted through the valve covers has nothing to do with them.

GM did not go to composite covers on the LT4. They used the same covers vettes had been using on the LT1 for years.

Um that's incorrect. the LT4 used 1.6 rollers that the lt1 vette did not which caused false knock which is why there is the LT4 knock module and LT4 composite covers. do some research.

Also the fact that the sensor is in the block doesn't mean it doesn't register outside interference such as exhaust.

Actually all LT1 vettes had the composite valve covers.

Yep. I guess I have to do some research lol. I had been told by the dealer that the lt4 used different valve covers due to 1.6 rr but I guess that isn't correct after all.

Exhaust noise can also be transmitted through the block, seeing how the manifolds are bolted directly to it.
