CM 612 Install height

Hey guys, can anyone give me information on the recommended install height for the combination motorsports 612 springs? I'll be running a cc503, with 1.6 pro mags.

Yes.. i've read the posts about the spring breakage.. just working on a budget here.

Thanks in advance!

I think they are to be installed at the factory height but maybe somebody with more experience can help.

Need the spring rate and coil bind height to make a recommendation. The stock height is 1.78". Are they dimensionally (ID and OD) the same as stock springs?

If they are a direct replacement for stock springs (which I think they are) you will be at 1.78" if your heads are stock. From what I have seen they are good for .600" lift, but I don't know if this includes a safety factor or if it's to coil bind. Worst case is .600" to coil bind, or a 1.20" solid height if the 1.80" number is correct.

The CC503 is .537"/.544" w/ 1.6 rockers and .503/.510" w/ 1.5s. Assuming 1.6 rockers you will have 1.78" - .544" = 1.236" which is only .036" to coil bind. This is a little tight for me. I like to see a minimum of .050" to coil bind. You really need to find the closed/solid height of the CM 612s to know for sure.

They quoted the springs were 1.200" at full open. .0360" is about what a Hot cam kit has to coil bind (for whatever reason).

So does that mean the cam/rocker combo has too much lift for the springs?

It depends on what you think is too much. You have gotten some opinions about it.
On a side note, I have been running the CC503 (though on a 114LSA) with 1.6 rockers and the CM 612 springs for over 5 years. Mine is a DD and I don't rev it to the moon all the time. And my comment about the Hot cam kit shows that with even less room to coil bind, people seem to be ok. I am not advocating less than .0500", just stating what some people are running.

Back when I put my cam and valvetrain together, I was not as schooled as I am now. I was told it would be ok and I trusted what was said (perhaps foolish on my part, but nothing bad has happened).
At this point, I would probably go with some beehives with a new valvetrain build.
