Clutch went out today need some help
whats everyone my clutch went out today so i need a new one. My mechanic gave me a price of $599 for the clutch and $200 for the install. I figured i could get a better clutch for the same price. I was doing some searching around and found a few people recommending the spec stage 2 clutch. Basically i don't have many mods done to my car. its my daily driver but i plan on doing more to it in the future. Things like cam and heads a "little" nitrous. I want a clutch that will hold but at the same time be VERY streetable. Should i look at getting the spec stage II or I? Should i just get the stock one instead?
thanks in advance
also on specclutch.com they have two options for a flywheel steel or alluminum what exactly is the difference? Do i really need a new flywheel?

I just put in a Spec Stage 1. I have a 95Z with only minor(free) mods. The Thunder Racing guy said this would be a fine clutch for my car and that it was good up to 400hp. It does seem to have plenty of hook up for my car. I also did the install myself and had I had the $200 it would have been worth it to let someone install for me.
I used the SLP clutch and pressure plate. Works great feels like stock. Grabs a taaaaad bit harder but it could be all in my head. All in all, it was cheaper than what i was quoted for a stock clutch by a mechanic so I ordered the SLP clutch disk and PP w/TO bearing for a little over $300. Had it installed and flywheel resurfaced for $275.
you should be fine with the stock flywheel, I would also reccomend an aftermarket clutch, find out what the guy is installing, I called a few places, and I wasn't impressed with what they were wanting to install, One guy said it has 30% more holding power, but couldn't tell me what brand it was
I've heard a few bad stories with some of these clutches like the ram one which claims 30% more power. I've only heard them on here, so whether or not they hold good, I can't say. I decieded to go with a spec II since it holds 470 fwhp, which will be good with a power adder and some decent bolt-ons, it is supossed to have good street manors, I would loved to have the spec 3, but am unsure about its drivability. I would say at least get a II since you want nitrous, this way your in the clear. By the way I find the clutch install is a pain in the but--big time, I'd much rather do 10 cam installs then drop the tranny, 200 bucks is real cheap. Some of the bolts can't be reached very well. It wouldn't be so bad, actually pretty easy f you have a lift, but going under the car with no room, and getting to the bolts kinda sucks, it really depends on how what kind of die hard mechanic you are. If you have fun with working on your car, you might consider doing it yourself
