cloyes double roller???

cloyes double roller???

i know its late but maybe someone can answer this.

do i need to upgrade to the vented optispark if i go with the cloyes double roller timing chain?

i know i need to go to an elec. wp but i wasnt sure about the opti.

Yes, you need a vented optispark. The Cloyes does not have the splined shaft in the center of the cam gear, which drives the unvented optispark in the 1992-1994 LT1 . There have been a lot of recent posts regarding this.


However, to upgrade optisparks, you're going to need a 1995+ camshaft (due to variances in the cam snout and dowel pin). Nonetheless the timing cover, electrical harness, vacuum lines, electric waterpump, etc...

I had to grind the timing cover a good deal to make clearance for the double-roller as well. Be prepared...

thanks alex,

i was aware of the the new cam for the new opti and all of that.

i just wasnt sure of the opti.

i have a new came with the longer dowel pin, but i think im gonna swap it for a bigger cam.

Cool deal. ~All you need is the 1995+ vented opti and its corresponding components, and you'll be set to go (-well, in addition to the electric wp if you dont have one yet).

I ordered the Cloyes thru Summit for about $80 + shipping.
