Clean your MAF regularly!

I just solved all of my lack of low RPM torque and hesitation problems! *knock on wood* I actually bought the CRC MAF cleaner like 2 months ago, but waited to do it while I saved up to buy a replacement MAF unit, just in case. I was paranoid my luck was going to kill it, so I waited.

But damn! I had no idea a dirty MAF sensor would be so problematic. I actually first noticed the difference pulling out of my parking spot as it's going up a slight incline. Before, the car would really try to stall out since it's up hill with little room to accelerate. This time, however, it had no problems at all.

Also, I just took it on a 200 mile drive with about as much mix of city/highway as I normally. I drove it how I normally drive, and I noticed my fuel mileage increased from around 13-14 to about 17-18.

Now if I can just save up enough money to fix my exhaust leak, I'll be a happy camper, and I'm sure that will improve my fuel economy even more.

Alot of hard to trace driveability problems have been solved with a can of MAF cleaner and a q-tip.

Yeah, when I cleaned mine(first time in 50k miles after I bought it new), I couldn't believe how much smoother my acceleration was. Now, each cleaning doesn't result in nearly as much benefit, but that's because it stays clean since I do it once a year.

off subject but,
I washed my engine compartmen on my 3000gt like i always do. but i forgot that my dumbass broinlaw (VWidiot) cracked it when he used a screwdriver to try to adjust my MAF, he is such a dumbass. When i found the problem i opened it back up and water was puddled all over my circuit board. zzzzzzziiiiiiiiittttttttt

Anyway that was a $50 mistake, FYI

A lot of people will end up contaminating the MAF elements by over oiling their K&N filters. I have used tuner cleaner in the past with good results and it is certainly worth doing.

Disassemble ends from the sensor.

Spray down with a can of MAF cleaner. If you have steady precise hands you can use a q-tip, otherwise just spray it and let it drip off the dirt. The cleaner evaporates quickly so it's completely dry in like 5 seconds.

I have large unsteady hands so the q-tip was not an option for me. It still worked fine though.

also people should watch out so the q tip does not snag the elements ends.

Unhappy

Interesting thread.

Just today, I scanned my ride (rough idle and hesitation with a DTC light) and got a P0100 ( Sensor Circuit Insuffcient Activity). I cleaned my MAF carefully but it didn't quiet the code. Hmmm, I am not sure what to check next. Any suggestions? I never experienced any problems with a MAF before.

wtf, I just got back from autozone and they didn't have anything called "MAF Cleaner". I asked the guy, and he gave me STP throttle body and air intake cleaner. Will this work? I don't want to mess up my MAF sensor. It says nothing on it about cleaning MAF sensors.
